A mole, also known as a naevus, signifies a commonplace skin growth that materialises when cells responsible for pigment production, known as melanocytes, proliferate in clusters. They present themselves as diminutive, dark spots or can sometimes be flesh-toned minor lumps on your skin. Moles can exhibit a variety of colours, forms, and dimensions.

What are the health reasons for getting a mole removed?
Sometimes, a skin doctor (Dermatologist) will say you should get a mole taken off for health reasons. Maybe they found something about one of your moles during a full skin check. If they need to take a closer look at the mole under a microscope, they’ll do a special test called a biopsy. You might need to get it removed if:

What is cosmetic mole removal?

What is medical mole removal?
This is when the Dermatologist thinks it’s best to get rid of a mole so they can get a closer look at it, like a biopsy. Most of the time, three-quarters, the removal involves cutting it out and stitching it up. The rest are done by cutting it partially away, but a bit deeper into the skin than for cosmetic reasons – this technique is called saucerisation.
