We all want to look and feel our absolute best. Many of us have suffered from acne that has left behind unsightly scars or our skin now shows the effects of sun damage. Perhaps we have a few wrinkles? One solution to improve the appearance of our skin is that of skin needling. Below we explore everything you need to know about this procedure.

Everything you need to know about skin needling -What exactly is skin needling?

If the term ‘needling’ sounds frightening, rest assured there is nothing to worry about. It is sometimes referred to as micro-needling because the needles are very small. However, it can also be called Collagen Induction Therapy because the very fine row of small needles, usually no longer than 1mm, gently prick the skin, stimulating the production of new skin tissue and collagen.

Where can skin needling be used on the body?

This can be used anywhere on the body, but in most cases, it is usually used on the face to tackle skin issues such as scarring, pigmentation, wrinkles and sun-damaged skin. In particular, this treatment is very effective when it needs to target skin wrinkles around the eyes and brow area.

Minimally invasive treatment

This is an incredibly safe cosmetic procedure. It is suitable for most women, except for pregnant women and those with certain skin conditions. There is very little downtime following the procedure, which usually takes around an hour. You will be given a topical anaesthetic prior to treatment to numb the skin and a calming lotion post-treatment. You may have some redness and slight inflammation, but this will soon resolve – typically in less than 48 hours.

When will you see results?

New skin tissue will grow fairly quickly and once any redness or inflammation has subsided, you should see results within a couple of weeks. On average, most women will need around three treatments with a gap of at least four weeks between each procedure. Skin will look smoother, much tighter and younger-looking.
